How do you fish a football jig?
Cast it out, let it sink to the bottom, then slowly drag it across rocks, gravel and ledges so the football head rocks and kicks up silt like a crawfish. Add short hops and pauses, and pop it off rocks when it gets stuck. Keep it in contact with the bottom, since most bites come as it crawls or right after a pause.
What weight Gridiron Jig should I use?
The Gridiron Jig comes in 3/8 oz, 1/2 oz and 9/16 oz with 5/0 Mustad hooks, and 3/4 oz and 1 oz with 6/0 hooks. Use 3/8-1/2 oz in water up to about 15 ft, and 3/4-1 oz for deeper ledges, wind and current, where you need to stay in contact with the bottom.
