Questions & Answers
Straight answers from the Squad on the Bandito Bug.
What is the Googan Baits Bandito Bug?
The Bandito Bug is Googan Baits' best-selling creature bait for bass fishing. It pairs a fully ribbed body and elongated claws with a patented V-Ridge flange on each of its four legs, so it kicks and pushes water like a fleeing crawfish or minnow on the fall and on the retrieve. It comes in the original 4" size and the 3.3" Bandito Bug Jr., and it's built for flipping, pitching and punching cover, Texas rigging, Carolina rigging and running as a jig trailer.
How do you rig a Bandito Bug?
The most popular way to rig a Bandito Bug is on a Texas rig: a bullet weight, a flipping or EWG hook, and the hook point tucked back into the body so it slides through grass, brush and wood without snagging. Peg the weight and go heavier to punch through matted grass. Drag it on a Carolina rig to cover offshore points and ledges, or thread it onto a jig as a trailer. The kicking claws also swim well, so a steady retrieve past cover can draw reaction strikes.
What size hook should I use for the Bandito Bug?
For the 4" Bandito Bug on a Texas rig, we recommend a 4/0 hook. For the 3.3" Bandito Bug Jr., go with a 3/0, like the Googan Squad Hammer Hook. When you're flipping or punching heavy cover, a dedicated flipping hook such as Googan's Bandito Flippin' Hook helps you pull big bass out of thick grass and wood.
What's the difference between the 4" Bandito Bug and the 3.3" Bandito Bug Jr.?
Both sizes share the same ribbed body, kicking claws, salt and Slaunch Sauce scent. The 4" Bandito Bug is the go-to for Texas rigging, flipping and punching, where a bigger profile draws bigger bites. The 3.3" Bandito Bug Jr. has a smaller profile that fits finesse and smaller jigs as a trailer, and it's a great choice for pressured or picky fish that ignore bigger baits.
How many baits come in a pack of Bandito Bugs?
The 4" Bandito Bug comes 7 baits per pack, and the 3.3" Bandito Bug Jr. comes 9 baits per pack. Every pack is a molded clamshell, so the claws and legs stay straight and keep their action until they hit the water.
What are the best Bandito Bug colors?
Match the color to your water clarity. In clear water, natural colors like Green Pumpkin, Watermelon Red Flake and Natural look the most lifelike. In stained water, craw colors like Alabama Craw and Fire Craw stand out. In muddy water or low light, darker colors like Black Blue Flake, Junebug and Okeechobee Craw give bass the strongest silhouette to find. The Bandito Bug comes in more than 15 colors, including limited-edition Reserve colors. Tap the water clarity buttons in the color picker above to see the best picks for your water.
Is the Bandito Bug a good jig trailer?
Yes. Its claws and V-Ridge flanged legs kick on the fall and every time you hop the jig, adding bulk and action that triggers reaction bites. Use the 3.3" Bandito Bug Jr. on finesse and smaller jigs, and the 4" on full-size flipping and swim jigs. Match the trailer color to your jig skirt for a natural look, or pick a contrasting color for extra visibility in dirty water.
Is the Bandito Bug salt-injected and scented?
Yes. Every Bandito Bug is injected with salt and infused with Googan Baits' signature Slaunch Sauce scent. Together they encourage bass to hold on longer after they bite, giving you more time to set the hook and helping you land more of the fish that commit.
