Questions & Answers

Straight answers from the Squad on the Recon.

What is the Googan Squad Recon?

The Recon is a medium-diving crankbait built to reach its depth quickly and stay in the strike zone longer. Its round bill deflects off cover to create an erratic, lifelike action, and it has a loud rattle and sticky-sharp Mustad Triple Grip hooks. The diving depth is painted on the bottom of the bait so you can grab the right one fast. Each pack includes one bait.

How deep does the Recon dive?

The Original Recon is 2 3/4" and 5/8 oz and dives 8-12 ft with #4 Mustad hooks. The Mini Recon is 2" and 1/4 oz and dives 3-6 ft with #8 hooks. Both models have a rattle.

Which Recon should I choose?

Pick by depth. The Mini Recon dives 3-6 ft, the Original Recon dives 8-12 ft, and the Grande Recon dives 15-20 ft. Use the Grande Recon when bass are holding on deep ledges, humps and offshore structure.

How do you fish a medium-diving crankbait?

Make a long cast so the bait has room to dive, then reel steadily to bring it down to depth. The goal is to make contact with the bottom, grass or dock posts, since deflections trigger the most strikes. Slow roll it along the bottom, or pause right after it bumps cover to draw a bite from following fish.

Should I get the Recon or the Banger?

Pick the Banger for shallow water, 1-6 ft depending on the model, where you want to bang a squarebill into rocks, wood and docks. Pick the Recon when bass are deeper, 3-12 ft depending on the model, around deep docks, grass lines and drop-offs. Together they cover most of the water column bass use.

What are the best Recon colors?

Shad colors like Sexy Shad, Native Shad, Citrus Shad, Kosmo Shad and Mondo Shad are top choices in clear to lightly stained water. Craw colors like Sriracha Craw, Cornpop Craw and Mudbug work well in the spring and in stained water. Chartreuse Blue Back is easy for bass to find in dirty water.

When and where does the Recon work best?

The Recon catches fish year-round and really shines in the pre-spawn, summer and fall when bass hold in mid-depths. Target deep docks, outside grass lines, drop-offs and ledges, and open water where bass suspend over structure.

How fast will my order ship?

Orders typically ship within 1–3 business days (excluding weekends and holidays), mainly via USPS, and you'll get a tracking email as soon as yours is on the way. U.S. orders over $99 ship free, and returns are free within 45 days.
